Family-Owned Kitchen & Bath Experts in the Mount Washington Valley Since 1976
Family-Owned and Run Since 1976
Most people only remodel a kitchen or bathroom a few times in a lifetime, so they tend to want a company that has done it many times. Country Cabinets, Etc. is a family-owned kitchen and bath design company that has served the Mt. Washington Valley since 1976, and in 2026 we're proud to celebrate 50 years in business. That's five decades of experience with the materials, products, and installation methods that hold up in local homes. The homeowners we sit down with today are sometimes the grown children of the ones we worked with decades ago.
These homeowners arrive with very different projects in mind. Some want kitchen cabinets and nothing else, while others want a kitchen or bath design worked out and stop there. A good number of homeowners also hand us the whole remodel to run, from the first concept through the last subcontractor.
Whatever the scope, we work with homeowners from our Center Conway, NH showroom across the Mount Washington Valley and into the surrounding towns.

One Team
Behind Your Remodel
Rich Check founded the design-build company in 1976, building cabinets and furniture by hand, and nearly fifty years later, Country Cabinets, etc. is still owned and run by the same family.
We're a close-knit team, so we always know what's happening on each project and who's responsible for it. For us, that has always mattered more than becoming the kind of operation that runs a dozen jobs at once.
The Same Hands from Start to Finish
Here, your designer knows your installer, and both of them know your project. They can talk through a question directly instead of sending it through different departments or waiting for information to make its way back around. When the work stays in a few sets of hands, it is easier for us to stay on top of the details and keep everyone on the same page.
We Don't Overbook the Calendar
When a company is continuously chasing the next dozen jobs, the one already underway can become something to get through rather than a room to get right. We would rather take on the amount of work our team can properly handle. That gives us time to deal with the project in front of us without treating the next one as more important than the one already underway.
Built to Last Another Generation
We finished 190 rooms in 2025 alone, and after nearly fifty years in business, we are still thinking about what comes next. We are not interested in growing simply for the sake of getting bigger. We want to keep Country Cabinets, etc. a company the next generation of our family will be proud to take on.
What Hasn't Changed Since 1976
Country Cabinets, etc. was built on a simple idea. A remodel should hand back a room built around the people who live in it, not a showroom picture of the perfect kitchen or bath. We still believe that today.
That is why we offer kitchen design and bathroom design alongside full kitchen remodeling and bathroom remodeling. We also supply and install cabinets for homeowners who do not need the whole room redone. We would rather meet people where their project actually is than push them toward more work than they need.
Nearly fifty years later, the goal is still the same. Help each homeowner end up with a room that fits the way they live.

OUR TEAM
The People Behind the Work
One advantage of working with our company is that you quickly learn who everyone is. The person who helps you in the showroom knows the designer working on your plans, and the installers know what has been discussed before they arrive at your home. Here are some of the people you are likely to work with along the way.

Rich: Founder
Rich Check started the company in 1976, building cabinets and furniture by hand out of the same Center Conway showroom the company still works from today. He's mostly stepped back from day-to-day projects now, but the way the shop runs, the emphasis on hands staying with a project start to finish, still traces back to how he set it up.
Joy Check: CFO & Owner
With a degree in business management, Joy oversees the financial aspects of the company. Together with her husband, Rich, she is one of the driving forces that has developed Country Cabinets into the business that it is today. Outside of her duties at Country Cabinets, Joy enjoys her volunteer work in the “New Life” program at Memorial Hospital, creating hope for young mothers overcoming substance abuse. She is well known for helping these young women and their children move forward to a bright future.
Carrie: Vice President and
Lead Designer
Rich's daughter, Carrie, joined in 1997 and now leads the design team. She works directly with homeowners on kitchen and bathroom designs, helping turn what they want from the room into a plan that can actually be built. Many of the homeowners we work with still mention Carrie by name long after the last tradesman has packed up and gone.
Caroline: Showroom Manager
Caroline runs our showroom in Center Conway and is often the first person you speak with when you get in touch. She helps keep appointments and conversations moving, and if she tells you she will call you back, she does. That may sound like a small thing, but anyone who has spent time waiting to hear back from a contractor knows that it is not.
Andrew: Designer
Andrew works alongside Carrie on kitchen and bathroom design, with a particular eye for how the room will function once it is being used every day. He works out the layouts and helps make sure a good-looking room also makes sense on an ordinary Tuesday morning.
Alden C. Brown, Jr. “Cliff”: Project Manager
Cliff has been in the construction business for over 25 years. Much of that time has been in the business of remodeling and installing kitchens & baths in fine homes throughout Maine and New Hampshire. Cliff’s ability to problem solve on the job site is an asset to the rest of the installer team. He is always on the go – assisting designers, working with subcontractors, helping homeowners with the process, as well as making sure the job gets finished properly and on time. Country Cabinets is proud of our installation team and the respect they show to each client’s home.
Toby and Jeff: Installers
Once the designs and plans are set, Toby and Jeff handle the build, bringing what was worked out in the showroom into the home itself. They take care of the installation work, including the jobs where measurements need to be exact and there is little room for a careless cut. Toby has been fitting kitchens and baths here for over ten years.
Hooper: Showroom Greeter
Hooper (named after the character in JAWS) is the cutest, newest, showroom greeter to the Country Cabinets team. He is Carrie’s (Lead Designer & VP) pride and joy. He is very friendly but can be put in his room if you are not a dog person.
Between them, they hold decades of experience, and you will work with them directly on your own project and in your own home
We Live in the Valley Too
After nearly fifty years here, the Mount Washington Valley is much more than the area we serve. It is home. Our kids grew up here, we know many of the contractors and suppliers we work alongside, and we have remodeled homes throughout the Valley for decades. Being part of this community also means showing up outside of work.
Here are some of the ways we stay part of things:
Habitat for Humanity
We support its work building and repairing homes for local families, because it's the kind of work that sits close to our own.
The Best Buddies Walk
We take part in the annual walk supporting friendships and job opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Kiwanis
We contribute to its local service work for children and families in the Valley.
The Mount Washington Valley Realtor Board
We stay active with the board, which keeps us close to how the area's homes and housing needs are changing.
The Credentials Behind the Work
We know that saying we have been here since 1976 only tells you so much. Homeowners should also be able to look at the professional organizations we belong to and see
that there is something outside our own word behind the way we work:
Our membership keeps us connected to the standards and practices of the kitchen and bath industry, particularly on the design side of our work.
A member-owned group for independent kitchen and bath showrooms that gives a company like ours the buying power and business support of a much larger one, without the loss of personal service.
We maintain a presence with the BBB, giving homeowners another place to look into our business before deciding to work with us.
We have been part of the Chamber for years alongside many of the local businesses we work with throughout the Valley.

When Something Isn't Right
If something does not look or work the way it should, call us. We will talk through the concern with you and figure out what needs to happen next.
Because the people who worked on your project are still here, you are not passed from one department to another or left wondering who is responsible. We can go back to the plans, look at the work and get to the source of the problem. If it comes back to something we did, we take responsibility for addressing it.
Standing behind our work also means making sure you know what manufacturer warranty coverage applies to the products we install. We can help you understand that coverage if you need it later.
